One of the most recognizable names among 19th Century ballplayers, Charles Gardner "Old Hoss" Radbourn pitched for 11 seasons, winning 309 games - including a whopping 59 wins in 1884, in 678 innings pitched.  That, of course, is a record that will never be broken (he also struck out 441 that season).  Old Hoss also played the field, allowing him to rack up 300+ plate appearances each season when in his prime.  Radbourn's colorful personality is well-known even today; in addition to doing so on an Old Judge baseball card, he is the author of the first known photo of a person "flipping the bird," giving the photographer the finger in an Opening Day photo in 1886.

This card is cataloged as card # 377-3 in The Photographic Baseball Cards of Goodwin & Company (Miller, Gonsowski and Masson), the book we recognize as the definitive book and checklist on the Old Judge issues.  It is also an outstanding example of how the image quality of an Old Judge can be remarkable despite a low technical grade.  As is the case with many 19th Century issues, this card was clearly glued into a scrapbook or photo album of some sort, the resultant damage to the blank back being the primary culprit responsible for the low technical grade.  The image quality remains excellent, and the visible wear on the front very limited.  An outstanding card.
