Incorrectly labeled (and called by collectors) "Scrapps Tobacco," the Scrapps Die Cut issue from 1888 features 18 players from the St. Louis Browns and Detroit Wolverines.  Due to the nature of the cards (die-cut paper images), condition issues are aplenty with this set, as each card's many curves and edges are susceptible to wear, folding, and even breaking.  Additionally, the cards were often stored in scrapbooks, resulting in many surviving copies suffering from damaged backs.

This card, of Browns outfielder James "Tip" O'Neill, is an outstanding example of these colorful die-cut cards.  Graded VG/EX by SGC, this card contains minimal back wear, and just minor edge wear/discoloration that results in the assigned grade.  O'Neill let the league in batting in 1887 with a staggering .435 average, and eventually became the namesake of the "Tip O'Neill Award," awarded to the top Canadian baseball player of each year.  O'Neill, born in Montreal, was inducted into the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame in 1983.
