The 1895 N300 Mayo's Cut Plug set is popular among 19th Century collectors.  Unlike the N172 Old Judge set, which features black and white photos that often suffer from fading and discoloration, the N300s feature photos that are sharp and clear.  Still, the N300s have condition challenges of their own, since their black borders are prone to chipping and the backs are often damaged due to being removed from scrapbooks.

This Tom Lovett boasts the typical pristine image associated with the N300 set, without evidence of scrapbook removal (which typically presents itself with paper loss on the card's reverse).  While off-center, border chipping is kept to a minimum, and the corners are soft and exhibit rounding consistent with the grade.  With Mayo's, a grade of VG is a relatively high one, as just 65 cards in total have been graded 6 or better by the two major grading companies.  This is an excellent example of a 19th century card from one of the most popular of the 19th century sets.
