Gorgeous, higher-grade pitching pose of Hall of Famer Addie Joss of the Cleveland Naps.  Joss, widely regarded as one of the most well-liked players among his peers, was also well-loved as a sportswriter, serving as a sports columnist and editor for the Toledo News-Bee, and also for the Cleveland Press.  Joss also designed an electric scoreboard (known as the Joss Indicator) that was installed at League Park in Cleveland.  In 1911, Joss contracted tuberculosis meningitis and passed away.  Teammates and friends across baseball organized a benefit game - the first "All-Star" game - and raised $13,000 to help Joss' family members pay his medical bills.  In 1977 the Hall of Fame waived the eligibility requirement for Joss, and he was elected in 1978.  Today, Addie Joss is the only member of the Hall of Fame to have played fewer than ten seasons.

This card is a stunning 5, with crisp color and strong centering.  Corner wear is consistent with the grade, as is some very mild staining at the bottom of the card reverse.  The eye appeal of this card is very strong.

An excellent example of a Hall of Fame card from the tobacco era's most popular issue.

Population Data:
PSA Population: 83 total graded, 10 at this level, 6 higher*
SGC Population: 68 total graded, 5 at this level, 5 higher

NOTE that since PSA only recently began categorizing T206 cards by their back variety, there are undoubtedly more Joss (pitching) cards with a Piedmont back in their population reports, categorized as "unknown" backs.
