The Yankees christened their new ballpark with a Babe Ruth home run to start the 1923 season, took over first place at their 17th game of the season, and ran the table for the rest of the year, finishing 98-54, 16 games ahead of the second place Tigers.  In the National League, though the race was tighter, the Giants ran the table from the first game of the season, never relinquishing first place.  The two teams would reprise their 1921 series, the Yankees still seeking their first Championship.

It wouldn't take long, as the Yankees headed into the Polo Grounds on October 16 with a 3 games to 2 lead, Herb Pennock facing Art Nehf (who pitched brilliantly to defeat the Yankees two seasons prior).  This time, the Yankees struck first, a solo home run by Babe Ruth in the opening frame. The Giants would answer quickly with a run of their own, and then the Giants would slowly chip at Pennock, taking a 4-1 lead into the eighth.  At that point, the Yankees exploded against Nehf and his reliever Rosy Ryan, the big hit a bases-clearing single by Bob Meusel.  By the time the inning was over, the Yankees had scored five.  Sad Sam Jones pitched the final two innings in relief, and the Yankees had their first World Championship.

Presented here is an astonishing stub from the Yankees first victory, the first World Series for a franchise that has won a record 28 - a record unapproached by any other franchise.  Graded EX 5, it is in outstanding condition, with just light corner and edge wear present, particularly along the perforations.  PSA has graded just three examples higher than this, one of the most desirable of all Yankees-related tickets.

Please note that a modest reserve has been placed on this lot; the actual amount of the reserve will be disclosed with 7 days remaining in the auction, unless the reserve is surpassed during the bidding process.

Please note: the reserve on this item has been set at $10,000 (before buyer's premium).
