Spectacular pair of ticket stubs memorializing the greatest player the game has ever seen: Babe Ruth.

On April 27, 1947, the Yankees hosted Babe Ruth Day at Yankee Stadium.  Before 58,339 people, Ruth, dressed in a long coat and suit, spoke to fans in a raspy voice, concluding his remarks by saying "There's been so many lovely things said about me, and I'm glad that I've had the opportunity to thank everybody.  Thank you."  As if to illustrate how much the Yankees missed the legendary Murderer's Row lineups, the Yankees proceeded to lose the day's game against the Senators by a 1-0 margin, scattering eight hits.

A little over a year later, Ruth came back once again, this time donning the Yankee pinstripes as his uniform number was retired.  The once-mighty outfielder stood befire members of the 1923 Yankees, commemorating the 25th Anniversary of the House That Ruth Built.  On this day, Ruth did not speak to fans, but he did step up to the plate and take a final swing for cameras.  After the ceremonies, former teammate Joe Dugan poured Ruth a beer and asked "How are you?"  Ruth responded by saying "Joe, I'm gone," and then broke down crying.  Nat Fein's Pulitzer-winning photograph "Babe Bows Out" captured Ruth on this day, a shell of his former self, propping himself up with a bat before the adoring fans.

The 1947 stub is from a a Mezzanine Box ticket, in G-VG condition with some minor wear around the edges as well as a small chip of paper loss along the right edge.  A small section of discoloration from a paper clip is visible at the top, on both the back and front of the ticket.  The 1948 Stub is in G condition with some age-related toning and a small strip of paper loss at the bottom of the stub.  The day's attendance of 49,601 is written along the left edge of the stub.

Two incredible ticket stubs from two of the most emotional and famous dates in New York Yankees history.
