It is our opinion that Jackie Robinson is the most important figure of modern sport, along with Babe Ruth is one of the two most important figures in baseball, and even ranks as one of the most important figures in American history.  His impact cannot be measured, certainly not with numbers or MVP awards or World Championships.  What Jackie Robinson meant transcends everything that any of us do today.

Presented here is one of the most important cards of the 1948 Leaf set, the rookie card of the great Jackie Robinson.  Though Rudy Strejc handled his childhood cards as any avid young collector in the early 1900s would, by 1948 Strejc was well into adulthood, heaving reached 48 years old.  Clearly in those later years, Strejc purchased just a few packs of cards and hung onto them for safekeeping, and thus they remained in much better condition than the rest of his large collection.

This Jackie Robinson, fortunately, is the highest-graded of them all, reaching the lofty tier of NM 84 by SGC.  Featuring a bright yellow background offsetting Robinson's legendary blue Brooklyn Dodgers cap, this card is a strong example of one of the most important Robinson cards - one of two different cards issued in 1948 (the other from Bowman) featuring a portrait of the rookie phenom.

A stunning example of the Robinson card, and by virtue of the Strejc Collection, a fun piece of collecting history.  From the Rudy Strejc Collection.
