Spectacular team postcard featuring the well-dressed Kansas City Red Sox of 1909, an independent professional team that traveled to play games throughout Kansas.  The highlight of the team, at least by today's standards, was the presence of 18-year-old future managerial genius Casey Stengel (back row, second from right).  By 1910 Stengel had signed with the Kansas City Blues, quickly rising through the ranks and making his debut with the 1912 Brooklyn Dodgers.  His major league playing career was very good, as he generated 1,219 hits in 14 major league seasons, compiling a .284 lifetime batting average.  It is as a manager, of course, where he earned his legend, winning five consecutive World Series between 1949 and 1953, adding two more in 1956 and 1958.

The postcard is graded POOR 10 by SGC due to slight image fading, several pinholes, and discoloration to the reverse.  As with all Hall of Fame pre-rookie postcards, it is the rarity and not the condition that gives it value.  Easily one of the most rare pieces of Stengel-related cards in the hobby, perhaps one of a kind.
