The tragic 1979 plane crash that killed Yankee captain Thurman Munson still rings fresh in the minds of many Yankee fans as one of the most devastating moments of their youth.  That day was one of lost innocence for many young fans, the day we learned that our sports heroes were human beings and not supermen.  Even today, fans speak of Munson with a reverence saved only for the greatest Yankees.

Munson signed baseballs - in fact, Munson signed anything - are in high demand among collectors.  By no means a prolific signer, collectors prize single-signed baseballs from the Yankee catcher more than many of the most famous Hall of Famers.

Presented is a gorgeous example of a single-signed and inscribed baseball, written in bold, green ink and inscribed "To Eddy."  The Spalding official "pro league" ball is in outstanding condition, as is the quality of the signature.  This ball is somewhat of a treasure; it was discovered by our consignor in a box of assorted trinkets purchased at an estate sale; the baseball was undiscovered until our consignor brought it home and opened the box.  Attending the White Plains show in early May of 2016, the consignor had the baseball authenticated and it became our last consignment for this very auction.  We couldn't pass it up - it's a stunning, bold signature from one of the most beloved of Yankees, an outstanding and seldom-seen collectible.  Full LOA from PSA/DNA.
