Along with the T206 and 1933 Goudey sets, the 1952 Topps issue is one of the most desirable, valuable, and timeless sets in the hobby.  Ushering in the golden era of collecting, the set was the largest of its time, both in number and in card size.  The issue was the first to include color team logos, and the first to include stats from the previous season as well as the player's career.  Additionally, the set was issued in series, with the second series (#311-407) considered by many to be among the toughest "high numbers" of all the Topps issues.  The set included popular and highly sought-after early cards from Willie Mays, Eddie Mathews and, of course, Mickey Mantle.  Even today it is considered one of the most beautiful baseball card sets ever issued.

Presented is a near-complete 1952 Topps set.  Assembled card-by-card by a dedicated and advanced collector in New York, the set has bee pieced together and upgraded to a total GPA of 4.41.  The Mantle is being offered separately, elsewhere in this auction.  It is an exceptional collection of cards, the majority of which grade at the VG-EX level or higher.

A complete breakdown of the set by grade is as follows:  PSA MINT 9Q: .5%; PSA NM-MT 8: 1%; PSA NM-MT 8Q: 4%; PSA NM+ 7.5: .5%; PSA NM 7: 6%; PSA NM 7Q: 2%; PSA EX-MT+ 6.5: 1%; PSA EX-MT 6: 11%; PSA EX-MT 6Q: 1%; PSA EX+ 5.5: 1%; PSA EX 5: 14%; PSA EX 5Q: 1%; PSA VG-EX+ 4.5: 6%; PSA VG-EX 4: 38%; PSA VG-EX 4Q: 3%; PSA VG+ 3.5: 1%; PSA VG 3: 6%; PSA VG 3Q: 1%, PSA G 2.5 Or Lesser: 2%.  A breakdown of the set's key cards is as follows:  #11 Rizzuto (PSA VG-EX 4); #26 Irvin (PSA EX-MT+ 6.5); #33 Spahn (PSA VG-EX 4); #37 Snider (PSA VG-EX 4); #59 Roberts (PSA VG-EX 4); #65 Slaughter (PSA VG-EX 4); #88 Feller (PSA VG-EX 4); #91 Schoendienst (PSA EX 5); #129 Mize (PSA VG-EX 4); #191 Berra (PSA EX-MT 6 OC); #243 Doby (PSA EX 5 MC); #246 Kell (PSA NM 7); #261 Mays (PSA VG+ 3.5); #268 Lemon (PSA EX-MT 6); #277 Wynn (PSA VG-EX 4); #312 Robinson (PSA VG-EX 4); #314 Campanella (PSA VG 3); #315 Durocher (PSA EX-MT 6); #333 Reese (PSA VG 3); #392 Wilhelm (PSA VG 3); #394 Herman (PSA EX-MT 6); #396 Williams (PSA GOOD 2); #400 Dickey (PSA VG 3); #407 Mathews (PSA VG-EX 4).  The #311 Mantle from this set, consistently graded with the others in this collection, is featured elsewhere in this auction.  The grades of each card are listed on the PSA Set Registry under "Love of the Game Auctions - Summer, 2018 Auction (click the link to view)."

This is an exceptional set, ranked #45 on PSA's Set Registry, with very few cards graded less than VG.  Clean and consistent, with the overwhelming majority of the key cards presenting extremely well with little creasing or blemishes beyond typical corner and centering issues.  An outstanding example of a tremendously popular and desirable set.  406 cards total, missing card #311 (Mantle) for completion. The aggregate SMR value of the individual cards in this set exceeds $40,000.
