In addition to the N172 Old Judge set, tobacco manufacturer Goowin & Co. of New York also produced Gypsy Queen Cigarettes and inserted tobacco cards of baseball players in packages of Gypsy Queen Straight Cut Cigarettes. Although this set mirrors its N172 counterpart in the images used, it stands on its own in regard to rarity. N175 Gypsy Queens are extremely scarce cards and like all 19th-century cards, image quality is everything. Luckily, this SGC sample of Sam Barkley l really hits on everything that makes 19th-century card collecting great – an awesome image with impeccable clarity and contrast and a rare brand name scrolled across the top of the card. Low grade due to back damage and a tear at the bottom of the card, this card remains absolutely striking. Barkley’s N175 Gypsy Queen card offers collectors the ultimate chance to acquire a truly immaculate and rare card.
