The Schmelzer's Sporting Goods pinbacks are well-known, very rare collectibles that are highly sought after among advanced hobbyists.

The Kansas City sporting goods store clearly also sponsored a baseball team, as evidenced by the postcards presented here.  Each postcard contains an image of a single player, in uniform, Schmelzer's logo emblazoned across the dark flannel jersey.  Each player is well-outfitted with matching socks and belt, and both photos are set against, roughly, the same background (which appeals to be an outfield fence, complete with advertising.  The first two cards on the left, in fact, were shot in exactly the same spot, as the identical dandelions and crabgrass appear in the exact same place on both postcards.  The images are beautiful, if slightly worn and soiled with age.

A tremendous companion piece to a Schmelzer's pin collection, and a fantastic research project unto itself.
