In the baseball memorabilia collecting world, Ken-Wel advertising memorabilia is both highly desirable and widely counterfeited.  Phony advertising signs greatly outnumber authentic ones, and we have returned more than a few to consignors for that very reason.  This example, however, is an extremely interesting (and authentic) one: a 1927 catalog of the company's baseball uniforms.

Measuring 6" x 9", the attractive piece features one of our favorite players on the cover photo: Hall of Famer "Sunny Jim" Bottomley.  It is, however, the interior of the catalog that is far more interesting: surrounding small photos of various players in uniform, pinned to the pages, are a host of uniform fabric swatches of various colors.  35 different swatches are included, each tied to a different level of quality uniform.  The piece is a "serious" catalog, one featuring a variety of professional-quality uniforms (the "Grade A" professional uniforms were constructed of wool flannel, priced at $22.50 each, while "Grade H" amateur league uniforms were just $11.00).  Handwritten notes adorn each page of the uniform catalog, and the final two pages detail options and pricing for lettering, monograms, accessories, coats, gloves, and their "Dazzy Vance Model" of baseball glove.  In VG/EX condition irrespective of the handwriting on each page, also not considering the three or four fabric swatches that appear to be missing.  An interesting collectible illustrating baseball uniforms from the dawn of the Live Ball Era.
