Late in his career, Lou Gehrig began feeling pressure to evolve into the type of celebrity that his former teammate Babe Ruth was.  After all, Gehrig would not play baseball forever, and so in 1936 he began seeking out film roles.  His famed photo shoot depicting him in a loincloth led to rumors that Gehrig would star in the next Tarzan film, but instead starred in the film Rawhide, a largely-forgettable B-movie featuring Gehrig playing himself.  Presented here is a collection of four news service photos related to the film, including three still images and one publicity photo featuring Gehrig and Christy Walsh signing his contract to appear in the film.  While the photos themselves are in reasonable condition for their age, all are marred by various condition flaws, including minor tears and corner clips, wrinkles, and printer notes on the reverse.  Still, an excellent document of Gehrig's foray into feature films, after which he wisely decided to stick with baseball for what was left of his career.
