In the earlier days of grading, several different companies entered the fray and were actually legitimate businesses with designs on being reliable, accurate grading services.  Our friends at Sports Collectors Digest were one such company, running a dependable service with great integrity in the early 2000s.  Eventually, the company elected to leave the grading business, selling their equipment to a new company that made a slight change to the brand name and altered the coloring of the grading label.  Those early SCD-graded cards can be identified by the Sports Collectors Digest brand name and red oval in the grading label.

Occasionally, cards graded by the old SCD appear in older collections, particularly those assembled by knowledgeable collectors who are less concerned with the grading company who encapsulates their cards, and more concerned with their own ability to assess condition.  Such is the case with this grouping of four 1933 Goudey cards, two of which (#61 Max Bishoip and #73 Eddie Farrell) have been graded NM 7 by SCD and the other two of which (#12 George Pipgras and #21 Phil Collins) have been assessed at EX/NM+ 6.5.  The cards are all very attractive, centering being the primary differentiator between the two grades.  Four cards total.
