31% NM-MT or better, 33% NMT, 21% EX-MT, 10% EX, a few lesser.  This is a high-grade set of Fleer baseball "Greats," an expansion on the company's 1960 "Baseball Greats" set.  Featuring retired players from all eras (producing cards of retired players enabled Fleer to make baseball cards without violating Topps' player contracts), the set had a much more colorful design than its predecessor, which helped increase its popularity.

A number of cards in this collection have been graded by PSA, including five graded MINT 9.  They are as follows:  #7 Bancroft (PSA NM-MT 8), #18 Comiskey (PSA NM 7), #19 Cuyler (PSA NM 7), #24 Faber (PSA NM-MT 8), #35 Goslin (PSA NM-MT 8), #39 Hafey (PSA MINT 9) #40 Haines (PSA NM-MT 8), #44 Hoyt (PSA NM 7), #72 Roush (PSA NM 7), #76 Sewell (PSA NM 7), #98 Chance (PSA MINT 9), #100 Covaleskie (PSA NM-MT 8), #112 Hamilton (PSA NM-MT 8), #115 Jackson (PSA NM-MT 8), #117 Joss (PSA NM-MT 8), #126 McGinnity (PSA MINT 9), #129 Nichols (PSA MINT 9), #143 Tinker (PSA MINT 9), #154 Youngs (PSA NM 7).  It is our assessment that the set's ungraded keys exist in the following condition: #14 Cobb NMT, #31 Gehrig NMT, #49 Johnson EX-MT, #59 Mathewson NM-MT, #75 Ruth EX-MT.

Of particular note is the quality of this collection's more scarce high-number series.  Cards #89-176 are typically more difficult to obtain than the first series, and many of this set's high numbers boast stunning, deep colors, sharp corners and edges, and many are among the nicest cards in this collection.

This particular collection is a beautiful, high-grade set, with the SMR value of the graded cards alone approaching $600.  A 1961 Fleer set is an outstanding assembly of the greatest players to grace the game from its birth until the beginning of the postwar era.  Full of colorful cards of the game's superstars, this is a beautiful example of a set that documents all the game's greatest players up until it's date of issue - a "who's who" in baseball history.
