Though the New York Yankees would defeat the New York Giants in six games in the 1951 World Series, many believe that Game 2 was important for another reason: in the fifth inning, Giants rookie (making his first World Series appearance, as was Mantle) lofted a fly ball to right centerfield.  Yankees outfielders Mantle and Joe DiMaggio converged on the ball, and at the last second, Mantle, running at full speed, stopped short to allow DiMaggio to make the catch.  Unfortunately, the young Yankees outfielder caught one of his spikes in a drainage grate in the outfield grass, which caused a horrific knee injury that sidelined Mantle for the rest of the series.  The knee would require multiple operations for Mantle, and many fans felt that he lost several steps of his blinding speed as a result.  The stub is in GOOD condition with creasing and soiling from obvious use, but remains an important document, not only of the first World Series of Mantle and Mays, as well as the last World Series for DiMaggio, but of the dreadful Mantle injury.
