THe 1923 season was a monumental one for the New York Yankees.  Opening their brand new stadium with a home run by superstar Babe Ruth, the team finished with a 98-54 record, and were pitted against the crosstown New York Giants, managed by the great John McGraw.  It was the final of three consecutive World Series between the two teams, the Giants winning in 1921 and 1922.  The series would go six games, the Yankees winning the final game at the Polo Grounds on October 15 and capturing their first-ever World Series title.

Presented is a group of five stups from the Series, for each of the Series' first five games.  The collection includes the following:  1) Game 1, Yankee Stadium: the Stadium's first-ever World Series game, a 5-4 Giants victory on a ninth-inning, inside-the-park home run by future Yankees Manager Casey Stengel, on a long drive into the left centerfield gap.  The stub is in GOOD condition with some staining and overall wear, the game score written in pencil on the reverse.  2) Game 2, Polo Grounds: a 4-2 Yankees victory that was highlighted by two home runs by Babe Ruth, in the fourth and fifth innings, and a win for future Hall of Famer Herb Pennock.  Stub is in VG/EX condition but presents far stronger, some minor staining at the top edge, the game score written in pencil on the reverse.  3) Game 3, Yankee Stadium: a 1-0 Giants victory on another Stengel home run in the 7th inning.  VG condition with minor staining at the top edge, and an irregular tear at the perforation.  The game score has been written in pencil on the reverse.  4) Game 4, Polo Grounds: An 8-4 Yankees victory, the Yankees scoring six runs in the second inning.  VG condition with minor staining and irregular tear at the perforation, the game score written on the reverse.  5) Game 5, Yankee Stadium: The Yankees scored seven runs in the first two, Bullet Joe Bush holding down the Giants offense, as the Yankees won the game, 8-1.  VG condition due to an irregular tear at the perf, some minor corner and edge wear also evident.  A nearly-complete run of ticket stubs from the first-ever World Series victory for the New York Yankees.  Five stubs total.
