The 2001 Major League Baseball season was a newsworthy one, the season beginning with the New York Yankees defending their 2000 Championship.  Yankee starter reeled off 16 consecutive wins, tying an American League record shared by four greats from the past.  The Seattle Mariners were dominant, making a run at the 1998 Yankees' single-season wins record, Giants outfielder Barry Bonds made a run at (and ultimately broke) Mark McGwire's single-season home run record, Cal Ripken played his final season, and on September 2, Yankees pitcher Mike Mussina came within one strike of a perfect game.

On the morning of September 11, however, everything changed forever.

The day of the horrific terrorist attacks in New York, Washington and Shanksville, PA, Major League Baseball acted quickly and cancelled all 15 games scheduled for that day.  Eventually, the league would cancel a whole week of games, out of respect for the trauma the nation was enduring.  The games were eventually rescheduled, the season extended by a week, as the nation struggled to regain some sense of normalcy after a horrific loss.

Presented here is a stark reminder of that day, and a more hopeful reminder of how the nation banded together as a whole, helping one another recover from unimaginable horror and remembering the common threads that make us all American.  A collection of tickets and stubs representing 14 of the 15 games that were scheduled for September 11, 2001.  Games included in the collection are as follows:

•Atlanta Braves vs. Philadelphia Phillies Turner Field ticket stub (3), all VG/EX condition, trimmed at bottom.  Also includes Green Zone parking permit, EX/MT condition.
•Anaheim Angels vs. Seattle Mariners, full ticket (2), both NM condition

Missing is the Oakland Athletics, taking on the Texas Rangers.

Nearly twenty years after the events of September 11, 2001, we have a tendency to forget the horror of that day, and how baseball helped a nation heal, as it did in the days after World War I, as it did in the years following World War II, and as it did during the 1970s as Vietnam drew to a close.  This collection serves as a reminder of how baseball has always been there to hellp bring us together, even as we have been at risk of being torn apart.  21 tickets and stubs in total.
