The Sporting Life cabinets are much more akin to traditional studio cabinets than the "cabinet-like" T3 issue, and are considerably more rare.  Consisting of photos affixed to a heavy cardboard mount with an ornate design, these oversized cards were offered as premiums by the Sporting Life newspaper/magazine.  Consisting of more than 600 cards, these are very rare and desirable among prewar card collectors, seldom change hands, and rarely are found in high grade.  Case in point: between SGC and PSA, just 336 W600 cabinets have been graded in total, with only about a third grading EX or better between the two companies.

Presented here is Cubs first baseman and manager Frank Chance (the fact that he's listed on the card as "manager" actually dates this card to the 1905-11, as opposed to 1902-11, since Chance did not take over as Chicago manager until the 1905 season).  Featured in the classic Carl Horner studio pose used on so many of his cards, the image itself is an iconic one among prewar card collectors.

This particular cabinet is one of only several known to exist, so despite the low grade there is significant rarity.  The card's fatal condition flaw, as you can see, is a large ink mark and scuff of paper loss just to the right of Chance's face in the image.  Aside from that, however, the image is visible and clear, and the front of the mount is in fantastic shape, with only minor surface wear.  The reverse of the card contains remnants of scrapbook removal and paper loss that is the obvious result of the same.

This is an incredibly rare and desirable card of a popular Hall of Famer, in a classic pose taken by one of the most famous photographers of his era.

Population Data:
SGC Population: 2 total graded, one at this level, none higher*
PSA Population: 1 total graded, one higher

*SGC has also graded a third Chance, an SGC 60, which is not labeled as "uniform."  Without seeing the card, we are unable to tell if this is a Chance in street clothes, or simply another Chance in uniform that has been mislabeled.
