One of the more popular (and common) HOFers in the N172 Old Judge set, Tim Keefe won 342 games in his 14-year career, mostly with the New York Giants.  With more than 5,000 innings pitched in his career, he won 40 games twice, and 30 games four times with a seven-year stretch of 41, 37, 32, 42, 35, 35, 28, and 17 victories.  In 1888, Keefe posted a 1.74 earned run average in 434 innings, but this wasn't even close to his career best - in 1883, the workhorse threw an amazing 619 innings, completing all 68 games he started.

This card, pose #251-6, pictures Keefe not on the mound but with a bat. The Hall of Famer's batting records were far more pedestrian - a .187 average with a .252 on base percentage was a dead giveaway that his strength was on the mound.  Graded GOOD 2 with an MK qualifier by PSA, the card features the back stamp present on all thirteen N172s from this original owner collection, however, that very stamp traces the card's provenance right back to the date of issue, since the card has never left the possession of the Pennsylvania family that pulled it out of a pack of Old Judge cigarettes so long ago.
