Compiling a relatively modest batting average of .292 with a .364 on base percentage over his 13-year career, Tommy McCarthy managed to be elected to the Hall of Fame in 1946, 24 years after his passing.  An all-around player with a reputation for a great glove (and statistics that would indicate otherwise), a terror on the base paths and an out-of-the-blue 13 home run season in 1894, McCarthy is pictured here with the Philadelphia Quakers in what is his first card.

Graded GOOD 2 (MK) by PSA, the card (checklisted as card #301-2) has decent image quality with fading consistent with the issue, and corner wear that accounts for the grade.  The qualifier refers to the owner stamp at the reverse that traces the card's provenance back to a Philadelphia-area family that has owned this card since its original issue.

*Since SGC does not classify N172s by pose variation, it is unknown how many copies of each of the N172 set's nine McCarthy poses are included in the 58 total graded.
