Growing up in Yankees Universe in the 1970s and 80s, there was no shortage of "Holy Cow" jokes, as the legendary Yankees shortstop-cum-broadcaster's catch phrase was uttered enough times that it became a part of every fan's vernacular.  By the end of the Scooter's broadcasting career he was a celebrity, a well-known nice guy as famous for his catchphrases, leaving games early to beat traffic, and going on tangents unrelated to baseball as he was for his bunting, fielding, and on-field leadership.  By the early 90s, the fan rallying cry for Rizzuto's election to the Hall of Fame was loud and strong, and his final induction in 1994 was met with glee - and even more "Holy Cow" jokes.

Presented here is a plastic cow, signed "Holy Cow" by the Scooter himself.  Encased in a yellow box and wrapped in plastic by a fan, the cow (measuring just 6" x 5" including the box) is highlighted by the handwritten inscription: "'HOLY COW' It's that huckelberry (sic) The Scooter Phil Rizzuto: the H.O.F. awaits you.  $35.00 autographed."  The inscription on paper attached to styrofoam inside the box, clearly a folksy way of merchandising the item, probably at a memorabilia show, likely refers to Rizzuto's 1994 induction but does not shed light on the origin of the cow or the signature.

The signature is bold and strong, although messy - you try autographing a plastic cow - and the cow itself appears to be in excellent condition.  We have elected to leave it in its folksy packaging, adding an element of whimsical humor to the piece.  A unique and interesting piece of Yankees-related memorabilia.
