Love of the Game Opening Day, 2013 Auction

At the time he reached his prime, Bill Dickey was certainly one of the greatest catchers that mainstream American baseball fans had ever seen; that the game's greatest catcher was forbidden to play in the same league as Dickey only meant that fans had, with the exception of Detroit's Mickey Cochrane, no other frame of reference for catching greatness.  The fact that the catching position has been reinvented several times since Dickey's career ended, and he still ranks among the game's top 10 or so at his position, only underlies his greatness.

Presented is a Hall of Fame postcard bearing Dickey's signature in ballpoint pen in the upper-right corner.  Deemed authentic by SGC's new authentication service, the postcard is in good condition with a corner flip and a crease right near the catcher's signature.
