As is the case with many beloved hometown heroes, on June 22, 1917, the Pittsburgh Pirates honored their retiring superstar with a special "Honus Wagner Day" at Forbes Field.  A parade of from Wagner's home to the ballpark was followed by the presentation of a loving cup from Pittsburgh fans to Wagner (the loving cup from that event sold at auction in 2012 for $45,000).  To commemorate the event, the Weber Erickson Bunting Company of Pittsburgh manufactured a pin, featuring Wagner's portrait and the date of the festivities.  It is unknown how many pins were distributed, but today it is one of the most rare one-day event pins ever manufactured.  Today, estimates are that fewer than ten pinbacks are known, a few of which were sold off by the Wagner family as part of his estate some years ago.

The pin measures 1 1/4" in diameter and aside from some light toning appears NM on the front.  The paper backing does exhibit some foxing, with a light patina on the stickpin itself.  A fine example of a very rare and desirable pin, one of the most rare Wagner-related collectibles ever produced.
