Very scarce figural mirror base dating to 1889, picturing a baseball scene with pitcher, catcher, and batter.  The players are backed by a fence, onto which a flagpole is mounted, and a pennant waves.  In outstanding condition, the piece includes an easel back for standing, the copyright date emblazoned on the reverse.  An extremely seldom-seen piece, we have only found a handful of examples that have sold at public auction, one of which was a part of the fabled Halper Collection.  Measuring apparoximately 12 1/2" x 11", a custom-made, baseball diamond-shaped mirror which easily mounts into the base accompanies the piece.  The mirror itself is certainly a modern creation, yet adds wonderful visual appeal to a scarce antique baseball furnishing.
