Spectacular two-page handwritten letter dated October 8, 1937 to a niece of Harry Stovey, expressing condolences for the death of Stovey, which had happened just a few weeks prior.  The letter sings Stovey's praise, and discusses his outstanding base stealing ability.  In outstanding condition with some minor wrinkles and spots of wear, the letter was well-preserved by Stovey's descendents.  The letter reads as follows:

Dear Mrs. Temperley

Yours dated Sept 21 received.  As I have been ill and not out of the house since Sept 7th has caused my delay in not answering your letter.  Our still closed up at the house thou (sic) feeling much better.  I did not see the account of Mr. Stovey death thou (sic) did hear about it just recently - which you would express to the family my sincere sympathy.  When our team played in New Bedford some few years ago met Harry as I entered the grounds.  He was sitting with a groupe (sic) of fans - asked him how he felt - he replied saying alright except my legs are not so good.  My reply was that I remembered when his legs was so good that I could not keep him from stealing those bases.  In fact I never could throw him out - the fans got a great kick out of my reminding him of his great hase running.  He had no superior in running the bases.  Remember well his sitting on the bench with me in Philadelphia and the meeting of Ty Cobb.  They both talked about there (sic) base running.  Harry Stovey was every inch a gentleman at all times and an honor to our great National game.  In the event of any of the family come to Philadelphia at any time we'll be milre than pleased to have them call.  With best wishes to all.

Connie Mack

An outstanding letter with content recalling Mack's days as a catcher, trying to throw out the speedy Stovey.  Full LOA from James Spence Authentication.
