Simply tremendous example of one of Christy Mathewson's earliest cards, and one of his most familiar images.  Though not his first card, the cabinet-style issue is one of his earliest, an incredibly popular example utilizing the same image taken by famed performing arts photographer Benjamin Falk at his Broadway Studio near the then-new Flatiron Building in Manhattan.  Mathewson posed in street clothes for the photo, which was subsequently modified for both this and his 1915 Cracker Jack card to picture the pitcher in his baseball uniform.

The quality of the camera far surpasses the technical grade, though the grade accurately speaks to some creasing extending northward from the bottom edge and extending above Mathewson's (misspelled) name, as well as some ink writing along the top on the reverse.  Some mild edge chipping and light wear is visible elsewhere.  Despite the condition flaws, the card most certainly boasts the appearance of a higher-grade example.  A tremendous example of one of the most important, and certainly most desirable cards from this popular issue.
