In 1911, the popular sports publication Sporting Life published a large set of popular baseball cards that we know now as the M116 Sporting Life issue. In addition to that set, the company issued a six-card set of beautiful cabinet cards, similar in size and design to the popular T3 Turkey Red cabinet cards but much more rare. The cards, incredibly desirable today, are among the more beautiful issues of its era.
The M110 Sporting Life cabinet card of Ty Cobb is particularly rare and desirable in any grade, one of the few images of Cobb on a baseball card that depict The Georgia Peach at the plate, in action. This particular example has been graded GOOD 2 by PSA, certainly a misleading number given that PSA has graded no M110 Cobb higher than VG-EX 4. At first glance this card presents far better than the assigned grade; closer examination reveals some mild vertical wrinkling and very slight surface abrasions that confirm the accuracy of the grade. Despite this, it is one of the finest M110 Cobbs we have encountered, a strong and vibrant example with little obvious wear.
