Spring 2020 Premier Auction - Closes April 11
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 4/12/2020
An astonishing example of Ty Cobb's 1914 Cracker Jack card, boasting a clean, bold image, sharp corners, and creamy borders. The technical grade is reduced slightly due to some light caramel staining and a minor abrasion along the bottom-right border, coupled with a slight left-to-right centering issue. Despite these minor flaws, the visual appeal is considerably stronger than the numerical grade assignied by SGC. The most visible staining is evident on the card reverse, hardly distracting and certainly an acceptable tradeoff for such a tremendously pleasing image. One of the hobby's most prized cards of Cobb, due to the uniqueness of the image and the rich colorful background, the card would not seem out of place in a higher-grade holder. Carefully selected by a dedicated collector with an exceptional eye, this card was not part of the near-complete 1914 Cracker Jack set consigned to this auction; instead coming from a longtime consignor with a keen appreciation for visually appealing cards. Just the second 1914 Cracker Jack Cobb we have offerend in eight years, simply a fantastic example.
