Better known to collectors today as "Rebel," Earnest Telfair Oakes is pictured here with the Pittsburgh "Rebels" of the Federal League. After four seasons with the St. Louis Cardinals, the outstanding centerfielder moved to the Federal League after not being offered a raise despite an outstanding season. While it is unknown whether the Federal League team was named after the outfielder, it certainly makes for interesting copy. Graded VG-EX 4 by PSA, the card does exhibit some heavy caramel staining, but is otherwise strong.
