Rare and interesting uncut sheet of perforated art stamps.  This colorful set of stamps was produced in Germany around 1909 and included 37 players plus stamps for various baseball equipment (such as a ball, glove, "body protector, etc.).  While each player's drawing does not look like the actual player, each has a team affiliation and is depicted playing their actual position (i.e. Mathewson pitching, Bresnahan wearing catcher's gear).

Presented is an uncut sheet of 25 stamps, in outstanding condition.  How this sheet could have survived in this state, we cannot imagine.  Technically in VG condition due to a fold across the second row of stamps, folds at the horizontal perforations, and some general wear at the top edge, these stamps appear in much stronger condition than that.  The sheet itself has been folded at the perforations and is very delicate, made of very thin paper that, due to age, is beginning to separate at some of the perfs. The five rows and columns of stamps have no perforations at the right and left edges, but are perforated at the top and bottom.  This shed some more light onto this set, which has conventionally been thought to contain 42 subjects (37 players plus five stamps of equipment).  Clearly, however, these stamps appeared in rows of five, which would imply that the total number of stamps in this set is a multiple of five.

Included on this sheet are stamps of most of the set's keys: Cy Young (HOF), Jake Stahl, Harry Davis, Ginger Beaumont, Larry Doyle, Frank Smith, Tim Jordan, Tommy Leach, Hal Chase, Christy Mathewson (HOF), Frank Bowerman, Bill Carrigan, Roger Bresnahan (HOF), Kid Elberfeld, Joe Shannon, Willie Keeler (HOF), Jack Rowan, Nap Lajoie (HOF), Nap Rucker, and Fred Tenny, along with stamps for the glove, body protector, mask, ball, and bat.

An incredible piece, likely one of very few to survive in uncut form, an incredible window into an obscure international baseball issue.
