The Felix Mendelsohn-produced cards of 1916, with their 22 different back varietites, are, in our opinion, among the hobby's most interesting prewar issues, and still count among the hobby's greatest values. Of the different back varieties, the set advertising the Famous & Barr clothing store of St. Louis is one of just 7 that contains cards from both the M101-4 and M101-5 issues.
This example of one of the issue's undisputed keys, features the great Joe Jackson, just 3-4 years prior to the World Series that would cement the legend of "Shoeless Joe." Graded VG/EX 50 by SGC, the card exhibits very little wear, the primary issue being a slight crease at the upper-left corner as well as a mild wrinkle across the card center, barely visible. The quality of the image, however, is exceptional, the popularity of the pose making this one of Jackson's most desirable cards. An outstanding example, the highest-graded specimen assessed by SGC to date.
