Outstanding art print designed by J.C. Leyendecker.  Joseph Christian Leyendecker was a German-American illustrator considered to be one of the foremost illustrators of the early 20th Century, producing more than 300 covers for the Saturday Evening Post alone.  Leyendecker created advertisements for some of the best-known American institutions, notably Ivory Soap, Procter & Gamble, the US Army, Navy and Marines, the Boy Scouts of America, Chesterfield Cigarettes and more.

This attractive 22" x 28" lithograph titled "Is He Out - Or Safe?" was printed from the original art featured on the cover of the April 1910 issue of Street & Smith's The Popular Magazine (an example is shown here for illustration purposes only).  An extremely scarce print, one of only two examples known to exist (the other part of the Leyendecker Collection at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York).  Research indicates that this example hung in Cleveland Municipal Stadium's Stadium Club Restaurant in the 1970s and was obtained by a former employee.  This example is unframed, printed on heavier paper with visible water damage along the bottom.  Several tears and light creases are evident throughout, along with some pinholes and areas of paper loss at the edges and corners resulting from being hung with tacks.  Light pencil writing is evident at the top edge of the reverse.  Despite the wear, the visual appeal of this very rare lithograph is strong, a rare, colorful and attractive piece from one of the premier illustrators of his era.
